Peonies From Alaska are in Our Future
Monday, 14 September 2009 19:15
Our season for peonies will be extended to August and September in future years.
The Kenai Peninsula in Alaska has an ideal climate for growing peonies. It is located near the 60th latitude line where days are long and the temperature is cool throughout their short summer.
One of our new partners is Shelley Rainwater. Shelley has a farm near Homer, Alaska where she is planting peony roots this fall.
Growing peonies is a major career change for her, as she is a former tugboat captain with years of experience on the Alaskan waters, including the Bering Sea .
Shelley is pictured on her farm with Steve and Red Kennicott.
