32,500 Blooms!

oprah showThat’s how many blooms transformed Oprah’s studio on Wednesday, April 21st.  And lots of those blooms were from Kennicott!

Oprah’s show was called “Dream Jobs” and had a number of different people talking about their dream job.  Guests included a designer from J. Crew, the “Cake Boss” from the TV show and Jeff Leatham, the floral designer for the Four Seasons Hotel in Paris and the TLC show “Flowers Uncut”.

Jeff transformed the studio with Hydrangea clouds, large balls of hydrangea’s covering chandeliers, a gazebo as well as other large impressive designs.  Each studio audience received a bouquet of white hydrangeas.  Jeff said that this was his second design choice since he couldn’t get the flowers he originally planned on receiving from Amsterdam due to the Iceland volcano.  That is where Rick Kohn and the Chicago Plant department came in to the picture.

Last Thursday, Rick received a call asking for  700 opened, large Hydrangea plants in lavender and pink as well as 200 showy lavender orchid plants for Harpo studios.  Rick called up a number of his contacts and got the order filled by Saturday when they needed it.  It was a very quick turn around but the set looked beautiful!  Hope Oprah needs more flowers and plants soon!

On the show, Oprah and Jeff really emphasized the importance of flowers in the home and giving them as gifts.  Oprah said that she feels that having flowers in the home is really important and her favorite flower is the peony.  Jeff said that you should always send flowers in a bunch without a vase; the bunch should be of all one type of flower in a monochromatic color scheme and be what is in season at the time.  His mantra is “clean, simple and chic” for his designs.
